A startling incident has emerged from Panskura in West Midnapore, where an elderly man believed to be homeless was found carrying a bag containing lakhs of rupees. The man, over 70 years old, had been living under a bridge in Machhgram Bazaar after sustaining injuries in a recent Toto accident.
Late Thursday night, civic volunteer Tarashankar Baske attempted to shift the man to a hospital for treatment. But while assisting him, Baske discovered a large amount of cash in the old man’s possession. The revelation shocked both the police and hospital authorities.
Despite his frail and deteriorating health, the man was reportedly reluctant to speak, leaving the origin of the money unknown. Police are now investigating whether the cash is linked to any criminal activity, hidden savings, or unclaimed inheritance.
The incident has raised eyebrows in the local community, with many questioning how a seemingly destitute man could be carrying such a large sum without drawing attention for so long. Authorities are also checking CCTV footage and speaking to nearby vendors for any leads.
